When they started looking for its origins, they expected it'd go back 20 years or so. So it was something of a surprise when they found "OMG" in a 1917 letter from a British Admiral to Winston Churchill. He actually wrote:
I hear that a new order of Knighthood is on the tapis. OMG!He then explained:
(Oh! My! God!)That last part is no longer necessary. Anyway, if somebody calls you out for using OMG, just tell them you're citing a 1917 letter to Winston Churchill.
