The Beatles in the year 3000

.

Consider the possibility that the ancient stories we "know" about the people of the past are just disparate fragments we have haphazardly glommed together to fit our own expectations.

My rabbi tells a story of his own encounter with this concept.  When he was in Israel studying Near East history, one of his instructors handed him a box filled with clay pot fragments and asked him to reassemble them.  He pieced together a reasonable clay vase, and asked if it was correct.

His instructor shrugged, said, "I don't know," and pointed to a large mound of pot fragments outside. "I just grabbed a handful of the stuff in that pile and put it in the box."

A clever illustration of this is the following video; "The Beatles in the year 3000."
