This Sunday: The 59th Annual Washington Crossing the Delaware Reenactment


The 59th Annual Washington Crossing the Delaware Reenactment [Dress Rehearsal] on Sunday, December 11th.

Not only do General Washington and his troops cross the Delaware River in uniform just as they do on Christmas day, but additional activities and demonstrations take place throughout the historic village. The event/village activities will occur from 11am to 3pm, with the crossing time occurring around 1:00 pm.

Days before the Crossing, Thomas Paine penned the following words in his pamphlet "The Crisis":

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
